Competence approach to arts education

The aim of the present paper is the projection of the concept «com-petence approach» onto the problem field of art education by analyzing the termi-nological base with subsequent definition of the boundaries of professional com-petence for the musicians-graduates of higher school. The concept “competence” is considered in different semantic graduations. Essence of over-subject (inter-disciplinary) competencies, general-subjects competencies, key-competencies and specifically-subjects-competencies is uncovered. The components of professional competence of students of bachelor’s and master’s students enrolled in higher edu-cation in the specialty 025 “Musical Art” are determined.
